Following news that the demolition for Dominion Foundry has been temporarily halted, a new design proposal aims to regenerate the site and preserve the existing buildings.
The concept called, The Foundry: Canada’s Place for Music + Corktown Communities Hub is a joint initiative by International Resource Centre for Performing Artists (IRCPA) and Corktown Residents and Business Association (CRBA).
The proposal would repurpose the existing historical buildings to create a community hub along with a performance venue, office space and daycare.
Three new buildings are envisioned, placed atop the current historical buildings, which will create residential spaces with 50% allotted for affordable housing. The design includes a wave-shaped residential building.
